Next Generation Network Access Technology by NCP
VPN Path Finder Technology: Highly secure mobile computing - even in IPsec-hostile remote access environments.
The VPN Path Finder technology is a new remote access technology, developed by NCP. It removes a major restraint in communication within IPsec VPNs since it allows for data connections from unknown networks, whose firewall settings deny IPsec communication and only allow internet access to web browsers.
With the help of NCP's VPN Path Finder Technology, NCP's Secure Client automatically recognizes if the company's VPN gateway is not available via IPsec. If this is the case, the client software automatically switches to a modified IPsec protocol mode ("emulates" HTTPS) and sets up an end-to-end tunnel to the company network.
Through this technology highly secure VPN connections on the basis of IPsec are possible even in locations with limited internet access (e.g. at hotspots with restrictive security settings or in certain mobile communications networks.
The striking advantage of this solution is that the administrator may securely assert his security policy throughout the whole company. The user profits from all advantages of IPsec and is able to use IPsec consistently.
How it works:
Prerequisite for the VPN Path Finder is a NCP Secure EnterpriseVPN Server (>= V. 8) as remote side, featuring the VPN Path Finder Technology. An "alternative" port has to be configured in the VPN / IPsec settings of the server's local system. The VPN Path Finder automatically switches to the alternative connection protocol TCP encapsulation of IPsec with SSL header (via port 443) if the computer cannot establish a standard IPsec via port 500 or UDP encapsulation via a freely assigned port. If you set up a connection via port 443 with the VPN Path Finder, the monitor displays this via an icon in its state display (below the HQ / gateway to the right). The monitor interface displays the icon after VPN dial up. It also appears in the interface of Windows Logon, via NCP GINA or NCP credential provider.
If you wish to set up the connection via a proxy server, you can configure this in the configuration menu of "Proxy for VPN Path Finder".
