The Challenge
Employees across the public administration of North Rhine-Westphalia work both on-site and remotely, requiring secure access to the information and applications they need for their daily work. Ensuring reliable administrative processes across one of Germany's largest federal states demands a remote access solution that combines high security, availability, and operational reliability.
Project Goals
To implement its remote access strategy, IT.NRW defined comprehensive security and functional requirements. As the central IT service provider for the public administration of North Rhine-Westphalia, the organization required a VPN solution that would meet the highest standards for security, quality, and centralized management while supporting multiple government agencies through a multi-tenant architecture.

The Solution
Following an evaluation of several VPN solutions, IT.NRW selected NCP Secure Enterprise VPN. NCP Secure Enterprise Clients are deployed on the endpoint devices of remote users, enabling secure VPN connections with a single click. Depending on the user's network environment, the client automatically selects the appropriate firewall rule, ensuring secure and reliable connectivity while minimizing user interaction.

Results & Benefits
Today, IT.NRW uses NCP Secure Enterprise VPN to provide secure remote access for 60 government agencies, including state ministries, district administrations, correctional facilities, environmental agencies, and forestry authorities. The VPN infrastructure operates reliably, while NCP Secure Enterprise Management automates the administration of approximately 48,000 remote users. As a result, support requirements remain minimal despite the large-scale deployment.
